Character  Stian Sætansen

Description

Stygian Stígandr - also known as Stian (a siderian male; a horse sized big cat) watching over the outer rims of his territory. From this summit he can see the fjords, mountains, forests, tundras and even the ocean laying at his feet. His name means wanderer, and that is what he is at heart.

He is not often 'home' in his territory in the Fjordlands, above the Arctic Circle, but when he is, he takes his time to enjoy it...Then he can feel a brief moment of serenity and freedom in his otherwise turbulent and hard life as General of the Fjordland Force (a large group of siderians who fight for the freedom of siderian kind and a land without the invasion of apes with guns).

Stian started up this force and was the General until he was about 80 years old (which is 60 in human years). During these years he had achieved a lot, but never enough. He had brought these independent siderian souls together and make them fight as one. That had never happened in siderian history before. He had become a living legend; somebody who made the impossible possible, somebody who never gave up a fight, despite the fact that humans had shot him several times, humiliated him and killed his daughter.

He had achieved a lot with the Fjordland Force but siderians still suffered at the hands of humans. Also in the Fjordlands...He knew this battle for his own pride, his own freedom his own kind and all life forms he respected from the deepest of his soul, was an impossible battle to win. He knew that his goals were unachievable...but he couldn't do anything else than fight. It was a life-long heavy burden for him and he had to embrace these brief peaceful moments where he could look over the mountains...and watch over his land.

Again - this drawing is rather blue - but this is what the Polar Night looks like at a latitude of nearly 70 degrees North. Around the winter solstice it does not get lighter than this and the only daylight you get is a few hours of this dawn-dusk like blue light...see here all the photos :iconlapis-lazuri: has made at my place in Tromsø (69,4 degrees North) around the winter solstice lapis-lazuri.deviantart.com/ga…

first off, i can see your art evolving in front of my eyes, while at the same time it preserves this astonishing uniqueness, character, unmistakable atmosphere.... the one that makes it stand out so one can recognize it beyond doubt among a million other artists. this piece is the pure, signature Jayme art once more - at the same time cold and serene, at the same time still and powerful, having the authentic spirit of the North in it, as though not just having but having been woven entirely out of it.... and perfectly natural, but that Spirit of the Wilderness, of Nature, of Winter is so strong and tangible that it makes the scenery look mystical and otherworldly. with all of that Stian is in such harmony, he is one with the Winter, with the North.

i gotta say this feels almost elemental because it is almost entirely, perfectly blue. as always the atmosphere is a main character in the artwork, and i simply love the mountains and the vast fjord scenery behind, obscured by the dark northern mists. the shimmer of the snow shows the beauty of winter, and the birds and the snowflakes on the wind give a dynamic feeling to this otherwise calm, still composition. the overall gradient gives powerful impact as well, and i gotta say the way you applied the soft northern daylight to Stian's body - especially with the highlight touches of the tail which break the flat, in-line posture - is simply masterful. so for the wind in his fur.... another detail that shows just how much he blends with the North.

last but not least.... it is an incredible honour for me that you mentioned my photography works with this incredible piece. it makes me feel that i truly managed to capture the Spirit of the Northern Nature. truly, truly an honour to me.
